Archived seat billing

Retention without punishment.

When a user leaves your client's organisation and their mailbox is no longer found in Microsoft 365, their seat transitions to Archived status. Pausing a mailbox does not archive it. Historical backup data is retained for compliance and legal hold purposes.

Archived billing continues for the duration of the configured retention period or until all data for the archived seat is destroyed, whichever is later. Seats under active legal hold remain at the archived rate indefinitely until the hold is released and data is destroyed.
